Short Term Health Insurance In New York

The State of New York is one of five states in the U.S. that prohibits any type of health insurance plan to be offered that has a limited duration such as a short term health insurance plan. If you live in the State of New York and did not get enrolled in a plan under the Affordable Care Act through the state exchange, you’ll have to wait until the next enrollment period to get coverage.

In addition to prohibiting short term health insurance plans, the State of New York doesn’t allow carriers to offer other types of limited duration, underwritten health plans like fixed indemnity, hospital indemnity, critical illness, or accident plans either.
