Short Term Health Insurance In Massachusetts

Carriers are not permitted to offer underwritten, short-term policies in a handful of states in the U.S. and Massachusetts is one of them. If you are a resident of the State of Massachusetts, you’re limited to getting health coverage from the ACA, your employer, Medicaid or CHIP (also called MassHealth), or Medicare.

The State of Massachusetts has its own state exchange under the Affordable Care Act, which is called Massachusetts Health Connector. If it is during the Open Enrollment Period, which runs from November 1st to December 15th each year, you can enroll in coverage through the state exchange. If it’s outside of the Open Enrollment Period, you can only enroll in an ACA plan if you have a qualifying life event.
